Kogi NEWMAP sign contract with Loraj Consortium for control of Erosion site in Ankpa LGA, Four other LGA
Member Representing Ankpa 1 State Constituency and Deputy Majority Leader KGHA, Hon. Ahmed Mohammed, with the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources Kogi State, Hon. Sanusi Usman Yahaya yesterday Tuesday April 16th, 2019 witness the contract signing for the Engineering Design and Supervision of five (5) erosion sites; Olubo-Ojo in Ankpa LGA, Ogane-Aji in Dekina LGA, Etahi in Okene LGA, Omigbo in Kabba-Bunu LGA, and Ugwolawo in Ofu LGA and three (3) emergency sites; Afor Gam-Gam in Ankpa LGA, Federal University, Lokoja, and Greater Lokoja Water Works in Lokoja, as well as the Supervision of its Sites.
The Project Coordinator Nigerian Erosion and Watershed Management Project - NEWMAP, Barr. Ladi Ahmed Jatto in her brief remarks to the Consultant, Loraj Consortium, said she expects the assignment to be completed on schedule. According to her, “The consortium has to be on top of its game to deliver World class design that meets the World Bank standards”.
The Hon. Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Pharm. Sanusi Usman Yahaya emphasized the need for urgent action since communities are grossly affected by gully erosion, and people have lost their homes.
The team leader for Loraj Consortium, Chief Leo Anuforo expressed his gratitude for winning the contract and promised to deliver on schedule.
The Deputy Majority Leader who expressed his joy shortly after signing of contract by Loraj Consortium and NEWMAP, said he is happy these steps have been taking. He also commended the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alh. Yahaya Adoza Bello for release of Over Eight Hundred Million Counterpart Fund to enable this project kickstart in the affected communities. In his words; "I've always have confidence in the government of Kogi State under the leadership of Alh. Yahaya Adoza Bello, he is one man who doesn't play politics with the welfare of his people. Recall that, on 13th Sept, 2017 and 23rd Dec, 2018 I moved two different motions regarding issues of erosion and how it poses a serious threat to my people. Since then, we've not rested on this and I must commend the project Coordinator of NEWMAP. Barr. Ladi Ahmed Jatto, she has been on top of our request and today, I am here to witness the signing of contract".
