Date: Friday 19th October 2018
Venue: U.E.C Headquaters church, Taiwo Road, Ankpa
Honorable Ahmed Mohammed who was a special guest at the Men's fellowship annual convention held at the United EVANGELICAL CHURCH (Qua Iboe Church) Ankpa Local Government spoke on the need for the Christian community to continue to uphold the spirit of unity, love and preach peace all the time. He said as a man who grew up in an area mostly populated by Christians (Portharcourt) he relates with everyone irrespective of their religious differences.
In his short presentation he said " This is not my first time of attending and felicitating with our Christian brother's and sisters on occasion like this. We may have our different ideologies and interest but we serve on true living God. We will come to you to collectively appreciate your challenges, jointly proffer solutions to them as well as identifying areas requiring government attention in the various localities in order to guide our actions. This way, everybody will have an opportunity to engage with my administration."
Elder/Barrister J.U Okpanachi who made a remark on behalf of the church also pleaded to the Deputy majority leader to come to their aid. He listed several challenges which includes a Bus for church activities, rehabilitation of the church, and also ask the Hon. Ahmed to clear the air on why some of the water projects are sighted around the mosque.
In responding to his questions and request, Hon. Ahmed Ahmed said most of the projects sighted in communities were based on needs assessment. In his words; " Let me quickly correct a negative impression from some quarters about our water projects that are sighted around some Muslim worship centres. Before we flagoff any project, we carry out a thorough analysis and feasibility study of the area. We consult with the community (Youths, elders and women) and on most occasion, they recommend a place for us to sight a project. Also, take note that for a project to last and serve better it must be secured, regular maintenance and properly managed. So most of the areas we sight them are decided by the users of the community to meet with this conditions. It is for EVERYBODY and it is free. We have also sighted some projects in different locations as well. If you go Ikanekpo, Eneilè, Ojuwo-Acharane, Abachè Iyaya, Enarèwo, Otondoŕ, Amoke, Ejinýa, E.TC you will discover there are sighted either in a market square, front of a school or in an open place. This are places recommended by the community. I have never received any delegation from you people (Christian community) for an official request to sight a borehole in any of the churches." He said.
He also promised to channel other request made by them to his Excellency the executive governor of Kogi State through the office of a Chief of Staff, Hon. Edward David Onoja.
