TODAY 22ND MARCH, 2018 IS WORLD WATER DAY! I CELEBRATE A HERO (HON. AHMED MOHAMMED)

By Prince Tijani Dauda:

The United Nations General Assembly declared 22nd March as World Water Day to focus attention on the importance of fresh and clean water and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources. Water is an essential building block of life. It is more than just essential to quench thirst or protect health; water is vital for creating jobs and supporting economic, social, and human development. Today, there are over 663 million people living without a safe water supply close to home, spending countless hours queuing or trekking to distant sources, and coping with the health impacts of using contaminated water.
There is sufficient fresh water in Nigeria and the earth as a whole to make it accessible to everyone, but due to poor funding or decayed infrastructure and bad governance, every year, millions of people, mostly children, die from diseases associated with inadequate water supply, sanitation and hygiene. Water scarcity, poor water quality and inadequate sanitation negatively impact food security, livelihood choices and educational opportunities for poor families across Nigeria and the world at large. Though the provision of water supply is capital intensive, it is a basic necessity for the well-being of citizenry. In view of this, government at all levels can individually venture into water supply through Public-Private-Partnership in order to ensure adequate production, distribution and perhaps sale of potable water to all.
On the 1st January 2017, Honourable Ahmed Mohammed of Ankpa 1 state constituency and the Deputy Majority Leader of the Kogi State House of Assembly flagged off one of the biggest water project in his constituency tagged Operation Water for all. His major target was to make water accessible to about 35 communities or more in Ankpa 1 constituency. This project became necessary due to several requests by people in those communities for lack of clean, portable drinking water. So far i can attest to the fact that, about thirteen is completed, commissioned and put to use, while work is seriously ongoing in other communities. (You may conduct your investigations to be convinced of this fact).
The lists of communities are;
ANKPA WARD 2
ABACHE-ENAREWO
ABACHE-IYAYA
AMOKE
OKENYI-OTONDOR
UGOLO-OCHINOBI
EJINYA-UGBONOBI
ANKPA WARD 1
EMERE ATE
EMERE ANEKPA
ENELIE
EMEKUTU
ANKPA TOWNSHIP
OTUKPO ROAD
ANGWA-MISSION STREET
ANGWA OKPAKPALA MOSQUE
ANGWA OFODA
ANKPA-TAIWO  ROAD
ANKPA SUBURB 1

ANKPA SUBURB 2
OJUWO-ACHARANE

REHABLITATION AND RETICULATION OF BOREHOLES FOR OGODO, IKANEKPO, EJEGBO, and OJEDE in Ankpa LGA.
On a historic day like this, I must appreciate Hon. Ahmed Mohammed for making history. A pragmatic young leader who sees leadership very differently, a man who has distinguished himself through effective representation as evidently manifested in the provision of Social amenities, and his exploits on the floor of the house. He is quite intelligible politically and with unparallel sense of magnanimity. By flagging off this huge water project, you have saved lives as many people in those communities can now have access to clean, portable drinking water.

Thank you Hon. Ahmed Mohammed
I celebrate you today.
