Ankpa LGA: Save my people from erosion menace - Hon. Ahmed Mohammed

KOGI STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY LOKOJA

MOTION OF URGENT PUBLIC IMPORTANCE CALLING ON THE KOGI STATE EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY SEMA TO COME TO THE AID OF PEOPLE AFFECTED BY RAIN DISASTER

The Rt. Honourable Speaker, Distinguished colleagues, I want to bring to your notice the  unfortunate rainstorm that occurred in Ankpa LGA on Friday 4th and Saturday 5th May, 2018 which led to the destruction of over 50 homes, schools, worship centres and our roads.

With just a few rain so far this year, many communities in Ankpa 1 constituency are already under threat of devastating gully erosion. Many families abandoned their homes whenever it rains because of fear of what might happen. Apart from houses, roads are also being threatened such that it is common to see many roads cut in two by erosion. People no longer sleep with their two eyes closed.

Prayers

Be it resolved by this Honourable house as follows;

1. Direct the Kogi State Emergency Management Agency to supply relief materials to displaced victims, and safety measures is put in place to bringing flood to it minimal level should it occur again.

2. That the Kogi State government direct contractors handling the construction of major roads in Ankpa LGA to ensure speedy completion of work, and also proper construction of water channels and drainage.

3. That the house committee on works carry out an on the spot assessment to some of the trouble areas and possibly, the affected victims.
4. That the Kogi State Government direct the Nigerian Erosion and Water-shed Management Project ( Kogi Newmap) to immediately begin construction of drainages and proper water channels to prevent future occurrences

I so moved
Dated this day 9th of May, 2018

Hon. Ahmed Mohammed
Ankpa 1 state constituency
