ANKPA 1: Time we shun sentiment and appreciate good work
By Comrd Ogbe Benson Aduojo
"To a wise man, yesterday is an experience, today is an opportunity and tomorrow is a promise WHILE to a foolish man, yesterday is a bygone, today a freedom and tomorrow is a mystery".
Democracy, according to Abraham Lincoln whose definition of the term has become axiomatic, is the government of the people by the people and for the people which in other words, is described as open government as it permits freedom of speech and ideas by the electorates. To this extent, It is sacrosanct that in any given Democratic setting, everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion as it concerns the leadership, development and poltical programmes of the area hence politics is popularly termed or seen to be a game of interest.
However, it will become undemocratic and tantamount to anti-development and destruction of future hope where people's individual interest become the gods of the day in detriment to the interest of the masses. It becomes ridiculous and worrisome where electorates could not appreciate good works of their representatives or government, differentiate a leader who is after people's interests and a leader who is after selfish interest in their politicking and choice making either as a result of personal or sentimental hatred or of self aggrandizement or ignorance or lack of exposure.
Whereas, for any society or group of people to enhance sustainable political development, there must be priority for the interest of the masses against individual interest, there must be collectivity in choice making during elections, there must be proper identification, regards, and support for leaders or representatives who are selfless in their policy making and developmental mile-puts towards stimulating and propelling their good efforts.
It is no longer farfetched that Hon. Ahmed Muhammed who is currently representing Ankpa 1 constituency at the 6th Kogi Assembly is a developmental enthusiast and God-sent to Ankpa 1 constituency deserving his poeples' appreciation; A representative whose hand written of development and quality representation is glaring and incomparable to that of most of his member colleagues and Ankpa predecessors. No doubt, It may be difficult for some of us who have never stepped out of Ankpa or who had never have any opportunity to witness and experience what is happening in other state constituencies to appreciate this fact but if you think you are the poorest for living in a mud house you should think of those sleeping outside.
Taking a flash at Hon. Ahmed's mile-put of achievements within a short period of two years in office, it is undisputable without missing words, that he has proved himself beyond reasonable doubt deserving unreserved appreciation and encouragement by his poeple.
What kind of quality representation should a progressive minded electorate expect from a representative to deserved his/her appreciation and maximum support?; A state constituency representative whose developmental tentacles has no limit of sentiment, age, religion, group or party? An active House Member, who have moved Motions towards the wellfare and development of his poeple so far herewit; Motion calling on the state government to review the awarded Ankpa Township Road by the immediate past administration of Capt Idris Ichala Wada to be re-awarded, Motion calling on the state government to intervene in the high rate of insecurity in the state, Motion calling on the state government to direct the ministry of water resources to tackle urgently the challenges of inadequate water supply in Ankpa local government area, Motion calling on the state government to as a matter of urgency intervene in the operations of Ankpa Zonal Hospital and to make it functional, Motion calling on the state government to rehabilitate, equip and ensure efficient functioning of vocational and Technical Colleges in Kogi State, Motion calling on the state government to begin construction of Abache-Okenyi-Ojibogo-Ejinya Efofe-Aguyaya road in Ankpa Local Government Area, Motion: A call to "Action" to begin sensitization and immunization against Hepatitis C as it affects other states, Motion calling on the state government to rehabilitate Community Grammar School, Opulega-Ankpa LGA.
A Lawmaker who had launched WATER-FOR-ALL PROJECT towards providing portable drinking water for his people wherein, about twenty communities were captured in his constituency and was able to have completed under listed; Construction of borehole at Ankpa-Taiwo road, Rehabilitation of Ankpa-Ojede borehole, Rehabilitation of Ankpa-Ejegbo borehole, Completed water project at Ankpa-Oturkpo road, Completed water project at Ankpa-Angwa Ofoda, Completed water project at Ugolo-Ochinobi in Ankpa LGA, Completed water project at Angwa mission street, Ankpa LGA, Completion and commissioning of motorised borehole for five communities in Ankpa District; Angwa Okpakpala Lona, Angwa Ofoda, Ankpa/Oturkpo Road, Allor and Ejinya Ugbonobi community and had undergone other projects in other spheres of life such as Rehabilitation of Secondary School classrooms in Ugolo-Ochinobi, Ankpa, Award of scholarship to students of secondary school up to university level, "AHMED MOHAMMED SKILL ACQUISITION AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP SCHEME" which has enrolled over 200 youths into various fields of their choice like Tailoring, ICT/Computer Engineering, Fabrication Engineering, Event management (Women), Hair making/dressing(Women) etc.
Who had also in his "Back to school education support initiative" which targets primarily, the less privileged Pupils, students who are passionate about education, but may have challenges financially wherein, School uniforms, writing materials and scholarships were awarded to over 50 students in Ankpa LGA for now.
Honorable Ahmed Mohammed who has also, on numerous occasions visited the sick at different hospitals, cleared their medical bills, sponsored full surgical procedure of patients, also visited traditional homes where some sick persons were also receiving trado-medical attention and cleared their bills.
And just yesterday Sunday 6th May, 2018, while he was at home for the APC ward congress, there was a heavy rainfall which destroyed houses, rendered people homeless, whereupon, he abandoned his activities to visit and sympatize with the affected victims. He toured round Ankpa LGA and has promised to send relief materials / support financially to enable them put their places of abode in order. What more do you expect of a generous representative?
Objectively, if really we must get it sustainably right, it's high time we shunned politics of sentiment, selfishness, hypocrisy and unnecessary hatred and devotes our appreciation and support for good work in our land as its said, a child who watches his hands clean, eats wih the elders.
