Ankpa LGA: Hon. Ahmed Mohammed organises 1st Edition of Ankpa I Qur'anic recitation Competiton

Over 100 participants drawn from the five wards in Ankpa I constituency to participate in the first edition of Ankpa I Qur'anic recitation competition.

The competition opened in Ankpa Township Stadium on Sunday 20th May, 2018.

Declaring it open, the Deputy majority leader assured of his continued support towards Islamic education and moral up-bringing of children. applauded the effort of the  Reciters, saying that, memorization of the Holy Quran requires commitment and seriousness. In his speech he said; "I, must commend your determination to memorize the Holy Quran which has enabled you to participate in this very important competition. It is important that we continue to encourage the recitation of the Quran beyond this competition, even among non-Muslims".

He enjoined the competition organising committee to identify good talents that could perform commendable feat at national competitions. "It will be a  great pride to the entire state and the nation at large if there are to compete at the higher level,” He rounded up his speech by assuring the people of his constituency of his commitment to continue working with the templates of his campaign promises. "I will remain committed to effective representation and legislation, youth empowerment/Skill acquisition programs for our teeming youths, providing basic/social amenities, and more importantly, establishing a wider and well cultivated relationahip between the people and myself. My doors are always open. No one, and indeed, no community will be excluded from our prosperity on account on their religious or political inclinations".

The Onu-Ankpa, Onu-Ogodo, Acting Ejeh Ankpa LGA, Sheiqh Salman A'adam (Chief Imam Ankpa LGA), the administrator Ankpa LGA, And lots of dignitaries graced the occasion to sheer the reciters up and encourage them.

Speaking on behalf of the scholars, Dr. Sani Haroon commended the honorable member for being innovate, coming up with such idea which no politician has ever done in the history of Ankpa LGA and also for his developmental strides. He also pleaded with him to come to their aid by providing a vehicle for the Islamic body to enable them disseminate Islam and Islamic teachings across the state.

Responding swiftly, Honorable Ahmed Mohammed promised to provide the Islamic body a vehicle before the finals of the Quranic competition.

Breaking News: Muri/SDP floors ODODO as Supreme Court grants stay of execution

In a significant development, the Supreme Court has issued a stay of execution on the orders of the Court of Appeal, which were previously granted on March 1st, 2024. These orders had set aside the inspections conducted by the Petitioners, as well as orders G, K, and N of the Tribunal's orders from November 25th, 2023. The legal team representing the Petitioners, led by Chief J.S. Okutepa SAN and including Shaibu Enejoh Aruwa SAN and other lawyers, passionately argued for the stay during today's hearing, expressing concern over the irreversible damage the Court of Appeal's orders would inflict on their clients. Responding to their plea, the Supreme Court granted the interim stay and ordered relief in accordance with the motion filed on March 5th, 2024. The hearing on the motion on notice has now been adjourned to March 11th, 2024.

Breaking: Fresh Petition Accuse Yahaya Bello, Ododo of stealing over N300 Billion Local Government Funds

A fresh petition before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has accused former Kogi state Governor, Yahaya Bello and his successor, Usman Ododo, of conniving with others to either loot or misappropriate over N300Billion allocation to the 21 Local Governments of the state between May 2016-January 2024. On Wednesday, operatives of EFCC had stormed Bello’s residence in Abuja in an attempt to arrest him over an ongoing fraud investigation. But Ododo arrived the former Governor’s residence and helped him to evade arrest by smuggling him out. However, the fresh petition listed all the 21 immediate past Local Government Chairmen who served during Bello as co-conspirators in the looting of the over N300billion LG funds. The petition signed by a group known as Kogi Conscience stated that in 2016, N23.1billion was received as Kogi Local Govt Allocations and in 2018, N43.6billion was received.
